Artist Statement

My work is rooted in history, folktales, and the enduring spirit of my hometown Bantry in West Cork. Through ceramics and textiles, I bring forth memories of place and family, channelling the stories and traditions that shaped me. Inspired by Simone Walsh’s nostalgic depictions of the Irish home and Laura Fitzgerald’s reflections on cultural heritage and Ireland’s complex relationship with land, my pieces honour the sense of belonging that connects us to our heritage.  My pieces are a tribute to the comforting sense of belonging that connects us to our heritage, an invitation for viewers to reflect on their own stories, their own roots. Recently, I’ve been drawn to the women of my Irish home, those who raised me with resilience. In a household where women managed everything, I learned the strength woven into daily life. This foundation has deeply influenced my artistic perspective.

As my work evolved, I drew inspiration from David Kronn’s ability to capture identity through moments steeped in history and Nell Mc Cafferty’s fearless exploration of gender equality and societal challenges. These influences, along with Lidl’s notable support for the LGFA, have guided me in using digital and graphic design as a platform to amplify the voices of women in sports.

My design work focuses on dynamic photography that captures the raw resilience and determination of female players, showcasing the powerful imagery of women behind helmets, dirt streaked across their faces, and the strength that they bring to the field. These visuals highlight the perseverance often overlooked in traditional portrayals of women in sports. Building on this, I am developing to raise awareness of the realities faced by women in traditional sports like LGFA and Camogie. Through bold graphics, impactful slogans, and evocate imagery, the campaign seeks to confront audiences with the inequalities these players endure while celebrating their spirit and dedication. By bringing these stories to the forefront, my work aims to spark conversations and challenge societal; perceptions surrounding women in sports.

My art has grown into a reflection of shred history, community strength, and the fight for fairness. Through ceramics, textiles and graphic design, I explore identity and belonging while encouraging viewers to reflect on progress still needed. By confronting both the warmth and discomfort of these narratives, I hope to spark meaningful dialogue and connection.
